The 2019/2020 Biathlon World Cup was settled at the last shooting range of the last race of the season, with another triumph by Dorothea Wierer, top athlete of the Italian National team and of the Fiocchi Team.

The Finnish stage in Kontiolahti, indeed, was the last chapter of the international event, after the IBU (International Biathlon Union) decided to cancel the race in Oslo due to the ongoing health emergency.

And so everything was decided in the pursuit race, where Dorothea Wierer arrived with 8 points ahead of the Norwegian rival Tiril Eckhoff in the general ranking, but with 50 seconds to recover on the starting line. The race seemed to turn to an unfavorable end for the Italian athlete, but at the fourth and last shooting range there was a sudden turn of events: the Norwegian athlete missed three targets, Dorothea Wierer only one.

The ending was heart-pounding: Wierer recovered the disadvantage, kept the Scandinavian at a safe distance and wrote the history of Biathlon once again. After being the first Italian to win the World Cup last season, Dorothea gave an encore and raised the crystal globe to the sky for the second consecutive year.

“Congratulations to Dorothea for this beautiful feat. She is authentic champion that never ceases to surprise us - said President Stefano Fiocchi - The fact that the result of the World Cup was settled at the last shooting range is a pride for all of us: Dorothea’s class and the reliability of our ammunitions showed to be a winning combination once again”.
