It kicked off in Östersund (SWE) the 2016/2017 biathlon IBU World Cup, the international competition that will wind in nine stages, touching eight different countries: Sweden, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation and Norway.
And there couldn’t be a better start for the Italian National Team, who claimed the Bronze medal on the very first day of competitions at the Swedish National Biathlon Arena. Indeed, the Mixed Realy composed by Lisa Vittozzi, Dorothea Wierer, Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch climbed on the third step of the podium on November 27th, signing the time of 1:11:41,3 and following Norway and Germany in 3rd place.
Seven days later, after some good placements in the Individual and Sprint races, 26-year-old Dorothea Wierer repeated herself in the Pursuit event: started with a 1:18 gap from the leader, France’s Marie Dorin Habert, Dorotha shot perfectly and came back from the 19th to the 3rd place, finishing 3rd behind Czech Republic’s Gabriela Koukalova and Germany’s Laura Dahlmer.
A great start for the Italian squad, whose ambitious goal is to to match, if not to best, the great results they obtained last season, when they closed with 15 total medals: 5 Golds, 5 Silvers and 5 Bronzes.
The biathlon IBU World Cup will now move to Pokljuka (SLO), where the second stage is scheduled from December 5th to December 11th.
